PRINCESS SOPHIA CHARLOTTE CHRISTINA OF BRUNSWICK-LUNEBURG

This historiated sculpture belongs to the series of gallant figures and scenes. She is Grand Duchess Sofia Charlotte Cristina of Brunswick (1694 – 1715), Princess of Russia, wife of Prince Alexei Petrovich Romanov (1690-1718), Grand Duke of Russia. The lateral gaze, the position of the hands and the clothing correspond to the engraving brought by Kniffer from Germany to the Royal Factory.

The tall, octagonal, neoclassical base, with lateral floral bouquets, bears no markings.

Female figure on circular pedestal, with the characteristic iconography of this allegorical representation: a sheaf of wheat that she holds with her right arm, while in her left hand she seems to have a sickle.
